Garth Callender - Master of Business Administration (MBA), 2014
Garth graduated from Charles Sturt University in 2014 with a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
His journey (find a better word) at Charles Sturt University provided Garth with a “springboard” to pursuit his career in the Australian Army where he worked for two decades. Garth now runs Trebuchet Pivot, a consulting practice which specialises in risk advisory and crisis management at board and executive levels. In his role, Garth advises widely across government and industry, whilst also sitting on several highly acclaimed boards across the country. These boards include the Sydney harbour Federation Trust where in 2017 Garth was appointed by the Hon. Josh Frydenberg.
Additionally…. I am one of three founding directors of the Australian Student Veterans Association (ASVA), a For-profit that promotes the academic success, empowerment, and professional development of military veterans at university.
During his 20 + years of serving the military, Garth has worked in combat, intelligence, training and strategic roles, which gave him “a sound grounding in risk and crisis management. With the extensive work and experience in his successful military career, Garth continued on to work in both public and private sectors prior to opening his own consultancy practice.
“The MBA ... gave me tools to translate my experience from military into valuable and unique lessons which I now share widely across government and industry.”
A particularly strong memory Garth has when studying at Charles Sturt University is the Liner programming as part of the Project management subject. Learning these tools enabled Garth to apply this knowledge in designing training programs for leadership teams about to deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Garth endeavours to continue serving the nation in his various roles.
“From…. Consultancy helping to protect Australian businesses, to my board roles where I can play a part in continuing to improve people’s lives”
