Melanie Metz

Melanie-Metz

Melanie Metz studied a Bachelor of Applied Science (Wine Science) at Charles Sturt University, a particularly significant accomplishment as the first person in her family to attend university. She then went on to pursue her career in the wine industry as a winemaker for five years after completing her degree.

“I…. was initially inspired to be a winemaker after a school excursion to the Clare Valley where I was able to see a field of chemistry in action”

Melanie then went on to complete her Dip Ed and is currently a Year 11 and 12 Chemistry teacher at Faith Lutheran College in South Australia.

Melanie began to see a more balanced lifestyle as a mum once pursuing a career as a teacher, “Maintaining a balance between mum, wife, work and life has always been a struggle, especially when studying”.

For Melanie the opportunity to gain professional work experience in the winery on campus was a particularly strong memory as she was not exposed to a winemaking region when growing up.

When asked what is the best thing about what you do? Melanie responded….

“Being able to educate future students and allow them to explore chemistry and appreciate the world around us”.
