Thea Wylie - Bachelor of Education, Birth to Five Years, 2020

Thea-Whlie

Thea is the Centre Director at Prestons, an early education centre. Charles Sturt University enabled Thea to realise her passion for early childhood care, helping her to “Better understand why children do the things they do.”

Thea's journey to this role was influenced by her family, friends, and colleagues who supported and inspired her along the way. Growing up with her mother working in the Early Childhood industry, Thea was immersed in a world where caring for children was not just a job, but a passion and a calling. Despite struggling in school, she found her stride in university, where she expanded her learning and honed her skills for her career.

Studying at Charles Sturt University was a transformative experience for Thea, not just academically but also personally. She cherished the connections she made, even in virtual settings. A significant memory for Thea whilst studying at Charles Sturt University was passing her first subject. “When I received my grades back for my first subject, it gave me the confidence to know that I could get through the degree.”

The best part of Thea's job is the direct interaction with children, especially those with additional needs. She has found satisfaction in supporting these children and watching them grow and thrive under her care.

While she was not the first in her family to attend university, it was a path that Thea never imagined for herself.

“This has been a goal since I was a trainee, so I am thankful for Charles Sturt University to be able to give me the knowledge to be able to undertake this role.”
